1. Data Controller & Introduction
This app, Only Captions, is developed and operated by Shikhar Mishra ("we," "us," "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose information when you use Only Captions (the "Service"), and the rights you have regarding your data.
2. Media Processing & Speech Recognition
- Video Files: Your original video files stay on your device and are never uploaded to our servers.
- Audio Processing: To generate captions, the audio track from your selected video is extracted and securely transmitted to a third-party AI provider, Groq, for speech-to-text transcription. Audio is processed ephemerally, is not stored by us, and is not used by us or Groq to train AI models.
3. Information We Collect
- Usage Data: App version, device/OS information, and diagnostic/crash reports.
- Advertising Identifiers: With your consent (via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt), we may access anonymous identifiers (e.g., IDFA) to serve ads to non-subscribed users.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (EU/EEA Users)
We process your data based on: (a) your consent (e.g., ad tracking, opted-in features), (b) performance of a contract (providing the captioning service you requested), and (c) our legitimate interests (app stability, security, fraud prevention).
5. Third-Party Service Providers
- Apple (App Store): Processes all in-app purchases and subscriptions. We do not access your payment details.
- RevenueCat: Manages and validates subscription status.
- Google (AdMob & Firebase): Serves ads to non-subscribed users and collects anonymized crash/analytics data.
- Groq: Processes audio for speech-to-text transcription only, under confidentiality obligations.
Some of these providers are based in or process data in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for transfers of EU/EEA user data outside the EEA.
6. Data Retention & Security
- We do not store your video or audio files on our servers.
- Anonymous Usage Data is retained for up to 12 months for stability, security, and product-improvement purposes, after which it is deleted or fully anonymized.
